Dig this. It’s not finished yet, but the song is coming together. Just need to do so mixing and some minor edits and effects processing.
The song is called “Do What You Do,” and it’s a cut that my cousin, Jonathan, and I worked out on New Year’s Day. We were bored, so we went to his apartment and rigged the most ghetto studio setup ever. Seriously, I strung my Snowball (USB microphone) up from a air conditioning vent in the ceiling, and we used an old t-shirt as a crude pop filter. After chillin and loafing around for a few hours, my cousin managed to scribble out 16 bars and a hook while I played around almost aimlessly in FL Studio. Soon after, we a simple beat to work with and a song to record.
Fast forward about a week later, another cousin of mine came over to house to lay down a verse of his own. DJ, known as DJ Cubed on my tracks (which you can find on the music page), came in and straight up killed the track. Well, mostly. He was short by 4 bars, so we had to stop and have a writing session. No biggy; the real problem was working the new material into the existing verse. In the end, though, I think the effort paid off.
Now, after almost seven months, I finally have this thing in some sort of working rough draft. So, here it is, a “world premiere.” XD
