Breaking news today Nintendo fans. Two bits actually. One is really big and arguably overdue, the other is… I don’t know what it is, really.
Big news first: $50 price drop!
The Deluxe package will be listed at $299 starting September 20. This is awesome news, considering the massive slump Wii U has fallen in and the looming release of Microsoft and Sony’s next-gen consoles. Also of note, the Wind Waker HD Deluxe Wii U bundle retail at the new $299 price point, so if you haven’t picked up a Wii U and have been considering it as a second console, you now have no reason not to do so because The Wind Waker is amazing.
Next: This mess…
A new handheld called the 2DS:
It seems Nintendo wants to aim this at kids to young to thoroughly enjoy 3D (approx. under 7 yrs.). That seems cool in theory; it even launches along side the next iteration of Pokemon (Pokemon X/Y) on October 12 at $129.99. But seriously, why? This thing looks terrible, and I think we can all agree that this really isn’t what Nintendo needed to do at this point in game. The only reason I’m not mad at them for wasting their time with this the fact that Nintendo has the money to blow on an endeavor like this, despite a failing home console.
Hopefully by this time next year, the 2DS, which ,as the name implies, forgoes the 3DS’s signature 3D viewing option, will be a profitable subset of the modern DS family, while Wii U finally stands on its own legs making gamers and Nintendo happy.
